Guide
Using Spuki
Spuki puts a small speaker on your desktop. It lets you shape everything your Mac plays, from music and videos to the browser, and when music is on, notes pop out of the speaker.
01The speaker
When Spuki is running, a speaker sits on your desktop. It normally stays behind other windows, so move them aside to see it.
Open the EQ
Click the speaker to open the EQ, where you shape the sound, or choose Open EQ from the note icon in the menu bar. Click outside it or press Esc to close it.
Move it
Drag the speaker wherever you like.
Hide it
Click the note icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen and choose Hide Speaker. To bring it back, choose Show Speaker from the same menu, or click Spuki in the Dock.
Keep it in view
Choose Keep on Top from the note icon in the menu bar, and other windows won't cover it.
02Changing the sound
The screen at the top of the EQ has five tabs: HOME · EQ · MODE · DESIGN · SET. You change the sound mostly with the MODE and EQ tabs.
Pick a mode
On the MODE tab, tap one in the list. There are 21, for situations and genres: bass boost, vocal, night, jazz and more. Spuki keeps the loudness about the same when you switch, so nothing jumps. MODE on the wheel below skips straight to the next one.
Fine changes
On the EQ tab, drag the ten bars, from low sounds on the left to high sounds on the right. Double-click a bar to set it back to 0.
Save it
When you like a sound, press SAVE to keep it in slot M1, M2 or M3, and load it again from the MODE tab.
Start over
RESET on the EQ tab undoes your changes to the mode or slot you picked. EQ.ON turns the EQ off for a moment, so you can compare.
03Controlling the music
What's playing
The HOME tab shows the song, how far in it is, and the shape of the sound.
Play and skip
Press the left or right of the wheel for the previous or next song, and the bottom to play or pause.
Volume
The + and − keys sticking out of the EQ's right side set how loud it plays. Hold one to keep going.
Mute
Press the round disc in the middle of the wheel to mute; the pink note on it goes dark. Press again to turn the sound back on.
04Changing the speaker
On the DESIGN tab, pick one of three speakers: ALLOY, TULIP or SUMMER. Press SAVE to put it on your desktop.
05Settings and quitting
Settings
On the SET tab, choose whether Spuki opens when your Mac starts, whether the speaker stays on top, and whether it checks for new versions.
New versions
When a new version is out, a small dot appears next to the note in the menu bar. Choose Update to Spuki … from it, and install from the window that opens; Spuki relaunches on the new version.
Quit
Choose Quit Spuki from the note icon in the menu bar. The sound goes back to normal. To open it again, press ⌘Space and search for Spuki.
06Privacy
The only thing Spuki does online is check for a new version once a day. It collects no usage data, and you can turn the check off on the SET tab.
Your Mac's sound is only reshaped and played back, never recorded or saved.
Spuki is a Mac app. Open this page on your Mac to download it.
Your download has started. Open Spuki.dmg and drag Spuki into the Applications folder next to it.
Devices: Apple silicon Macs (M1 or later) System: macOS 15 or later
01Steps
Download
The button above saves Spuki.dmg straight to your Downloads folder.
Move it to Applications
Double-click Spuki.dmg to open it, then drag Spuki onto the Applications folder beside it. Once it's copied, you can eject the DMG with the button next to Spuki in the Finder sidebar.
Open it
Open Spuki from Applications. If macOS says it was downloaded from the internet, click Open. You only see this once.
Allow sound access
When Spuki asks to access system audio, click Allow. It needs this to apply the EQ to what your Mac plays. Once done, the speaker appears on your desktop.
